Understanding Depression

Depression, also known as major depressive disorder, is characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities. It goes beyond occasional mood fluctuations and significantly impacts how you think, feel, and function. 

Symptoms

Types of Depression

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Characterized by a severe and persistent low mood, profound sadness, or a sense of despair.

Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD)
A chronic form of depression where a person’s mood is regularly low for at least two years.

Bipolar Disorder
Involves episodes of depression alternating with episodes of mania or hypomania.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
A type of depression that occurs at a specific time of year, usually in the winter.

Postpartum Depression
Affects some women after giving birth, involving feelings of extreme sadness, exhaustion, and anxiety.
